  • vic-viseVic Sotto, Vice Ganda, John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo will headline the honor roll at the 45th Box Office Entertainment Awards next month. Vic and Vice tied for the top award of Phenomenal Box Office Star for the runaway success of their respective movies at the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival — “My Little Bossings” and “Girl Boy Bakla Tomboy”.

Both films reportedlygrossed over P400 million, although the MMFF executive committee did not release a final individual box-office tally. This marks the third consecutive year that Vice has been named Phenomenal Box Office Star.

In 2012, the organizers saw fit to create the award to recognize the phenomenal commercial success of his 2011 launching film “Praybeyt Benjamin”, the highest-grossing Filipino film ever at that time. He won it again last year but shared it with Kris Aquino and Ai-Ai de las Alas, his co-stars in the 38th MMFF trop grosser “Sisterakas”.

The difference this year is that Vice will bring home two awards. The other one is Male Concert Performer of the Year. Vic’s two young co-stars in “My Little Bossings”, Ryzza Mae Dizon and James “Bimby” Yap Jr., have been named Phenomenal Box Office Child Stars.

John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo have been hailed Box Office King and Queen of the Year for their blockbuster film “It Takes a Man and a Woman”.

This is the third time their tandem has been thus honored. The first two were for the first two films that preceded “It Takes a Man and a Woman” in a trilogy — “A Very Special

Love” and “You Changed My Life”. Robin Padilla and Maricel Soriano have been declared Film Actor and Actress of the Year.

The Box Office Entertainment Awards — formerly known as the Guillermo Mendoza Awards because it is organized by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation — is the only award-giving body in the local entertainment industry that rewards commercial success regardless of artistic merit.

This year’s ceremony will be held at the Solaire Resorts & Casino on May 18.
