  • psyThe “Hangover” craze has yet to stop. Psy’s music video for his newest track has hit almost 80 million views in just two weeks after being released. Many are curious whether the viral 5-minute clip will hit 1 billion within the next week. Psy released the music video for “Hangover” on his official YouTube channel on June 9. Unlike his other hits, “Hangover” had a special promotion, with the Korean sensation and Snoop Dogg appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” just before the release of the MV.

“Hangover” has entered the U.S. Billboard “Hot 100” single chart, making Psy the first Asian singer to have three songs on the chart. The single, which is a collaboration of Psy and Snoop Dogg, features a unique mix of Korean culture and Western hip-hop. The video has received over 620,000 “likes” on YouTube so far. The video, which shows Psy giving Snoop a tour of Incheon and the traditional Korean way of having a “good time,” was filmed within 18 hours.

“It was shot in Incheon. I chose that location because Snoop only had 18 hours to shoot the video. Since he was going to arrive at Incheon International Airport, I wanted to shoot the entire video in an area that is the closest to the airport to get the most out of those 18 hours,” stated Psy during an interview with CNN.

Those 18 hours of filming were successfully chaotic. Psy added, “I initially told him [Snoop Dogg] that the shoot would by very relaxed and that he would only be in five scenes to entice him to come to Seoul and shoot the video. He ended up being in more than 20 scenes in more than 10 different locations within those 18 hours.”

There has been a collection of mixed reviews of “Hangover” thus far. Fans have described it as “oddly addictive,” according to the Korea Herald, while some expressed concern that Psy is representing Korean culture in a negative way.

“I understand that Psy wants to show Korea’s drinking culture in a funny way, but he is now a star. Many watch his music video. I am just worried out culture might be wrongly represented by Psy’s lowbrow song, ” an unidentified netizen stated.
