  • alcanoFORMER double world cham­pion Ronnie Alcano trounced Amine Ouahbi 7-4 yesterday to lead eight other Filipinos who also won their opening-stage matches in the World 8-Ball Pool Championship in the United Arab Emirates.Alcano, now playing for Jona­than Sy’s Negros Billiards Stable, arranged a second-round battle with Ramil Gallego who humbled David Plattner 7-1. Efren “Bata” Reyes, Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Dennis Or­collo and Joven Alba all won their opening matches last Monday. Lee Van Corteza, a bemedalled campaigner who has yet to win a world title, beat Tomoo Tanako 7- 5 in Group 10 while John Salazar beat Karol Skowerski 7-5. Also winning were Raymund Faraon who clobberred Hanni Al Howri 7-5 in Group 14 and Ro­dolfo Luat who downed Amin Fekry 7-5 also in Group 14.Former World 9-Ball finalist Ro­berto Gomez toppled Chris Mel­ling 7-6 in Group 11, Oliver Medinilla beat Francisco Diaz Pizarro 7-5 in Group 9 and Francisco Felicilda walloped fellow Filipino Venancio Tanio 7-3 in Group 8.
