An initiative to form  Fil-Can baseball association  is currently in full blast as bunch of individuals started to  recruit young players all over Lower Mainland.

Spearheaded  by Jon Servidad  of Hastings Baseball and PNT publisher Rey Fortaleza,  the group had already organized series of meetings including two  batting sessions  recently at the Sport Central Fitness gym  in Richmond.

In attendance during the session were players from different minor leagues, who strut their wares under the watchful eyes of Filipino Canadian coach Keno Magano.

Magano is currently the coach of North Shore Twin of the Premier Baseball League (PBL).

He is more than willing to hone the skills of  these youngsters for their own development.

The Fil-Can mentor has been coaching baseball for the past four years and started to handle the North Shore team last year.

“I’ve been into baseball for several years and I saw the potential among the Filipino Canadians to excel in this sport,” he says.

Servidad  together with Magano are encouraging all baseball aficionados to join their group.

The ongoing practice  is held every Sunday at the Sports Central Fitness gym situated at 2611 Viscount Way, Richmond.

Everybody with ages ranging from  10 to 16  are invited to join the practice at the said gym.

Players from Victoria are  also invited to join with their schedules permitting.

Any players who are eager to showcase their athleticism in baseball, may get  in touch with  Mr.  Servidad  at 604 7166250.

The club has also designed their logo and would call themselves FilCan Water Buffalo, which  signifies a hardworking animal with lots of patience, as well as representing where they came from in the Philippines.

The group is also contemplating on travelling to the Philippines on December next year to battle some teams there.

“We are inviting all young baseball players to join us, it will be a lot of fun,” says Servidad.
