  • Richmond, British Columbia – Small craft harbours play an important role in providing coastal communities and the commercial fishing industry with safe and accessible facilities. With more than 76,000 Canadians employed in this sector, the Government of Canada is making investments that will continue to support the growth of this industry and provide economic opportunities for middle-class Canadians.

On behalf of the Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, Joe Peschisolido, Member of Parliament for Steveston-Richmond East, announced that the Government of Canada is investing $33.5 million dollars this year to carry out harbour improvement projects at 29 small craft harbours in British Columbia.

$9.6 million of this funding will be invested at Steveston, British Columbia.

Steveston Harbour consists of two sites, Paramount and Gulf, which together represent the largest and most active hubs for commercial fishing activity in British Columbia.

    Investments being made include:

Steveston (Gulf) – Completing the reconstruction of the Third Avenue and net loft wharves, replacing the fish sales floats with concrete floats and conducting maintenance dredging.

Steveston (Paramount) – Completing the reconstruction of the electrical systems on the floats and service area, and reconstructing the fish auction wharf.
