Liberals approve medical pot growing

  • A federal court approved the growing and distribution of medical marijuana, giving people the constitutional right to grow it in their own homes.  The court dismissed the restrictions set by the Conservative administration in 2014 that forced patients to buy their prescriptions from licensed growers and sellers.

The new rules will to allow licensed growers prior to 2014 to continue to grow their crop. There are only twenty nine commercial  greenhouse growers in Canada, with some of them with more than one greenhouse.

One of the things that the new rule cannot guarantee is the quality, strain and quantity that home growers will produce.  Patients cannot be given assurance that they will have the same quality and price as the licensed owners.

The Conservative scheme had banned home cultivation of medical marijuana in favor of large commercial greenhouses in Canada.

The Liberal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government, is currently sorting out new rules for the use of recreational marijuana, after promising its legalization to his voters in last year’s elections. Canada will become the first G7 country to legalize medical marijuana growing in private homes.
