  • Despite being a private individual, former interior secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento agreed to appear in a video with fiancée Kris Aquino, together with her youngest son Bimby, on Instagram.

Kris on Wednesday uploaded two clips where her son expressed his approval to the former Cabinet member who once served the administration of late Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

The “Queen of All Media” said that she previously asked for her son’s permission before they got engaged.
In the video, Bimby shared that Mel’s eyes “would twinkle” whenever the latter would look at his mom.
“Basta you can feel he genuinely loves you, Mom,” the teenager said.

The couple also expressed their gratitude to people who have been supporting them, saying that it means a lot.
“I had to explain to him that you all saw me growing up, so ‘yung journey namin, we also had to share. He’s super private and obviously, kami ni Bimb, sanay na sanay. So, thanks for doing this,” Kris said as she gestured towards Mel at the end.

Kris added that she cannot promise her followers any more appearances with Mel since that was her only sole request.

“As I have always said, my sons and I wouldn’t have the life we have had it not been for your love and loyalty… pinakiusapan ko si Mel, na utang ko ‘to sa inyo,” Kris wrote in the video’s caption.

“So we compromised — pumayag siya but said (that) after this, ‘yung next video ‘yung wedding na namin and of course, I agreed,” she added.

“That’s how much he has changed me — I now know it’s not all about me, it’s definitely a give and take, and it really should always be about US,” Kris further wrote.
This was not the first time that Mel has been featured on Kris’ Instagram post but it was the first time he talked about their relationship, which was greatly appreciated by her followers and supporters.

“Thank you for sharing this intimate moment,” Vina Morales wrote in the comments with a heart and folding hands emojis.

“Wow. One for the books. Ganda ng love story ni Kris! Please do keep us posted. Pero mas maganda may mystery pa din at privacy so you’ll have a more peaceful life ahead of you. I’m so happy for you, Kris. You deserve all the love in the world,” wrote another Instagram user.
Drew Sarmiento, Mel’s nephew, likewise commented on Kris’ video.

“It really is true, we haven’t seen Uncle Mel this happy in such a long time. It’s nice seeing him smile and blush this way. Uncle Mel has always been quite private and shy. A man of a few words but when he does talk, he speaks with so much depth and substance. Our family is just ecstatic and purely happy seeing Uncle Mel happy,” he wrote.

“Nans, our grandmother, is quite excited. We’re happy for you both and we’re looking forward to your big day,” Drew added with heart emojis.

Last Sunday, Kris surprised her followers byintroducing Mel on one of her Instagram posts. She described him as the man she “said yes to spending the rest of my life with.”

Months before, she dedicated a birthday post to someone “special” in her life.
When Kris was bashed by some Filipinos online, Mel defended her by replying to the comment through her account.

Reports said that they were introduced to each other back when he was still a Cabinet secretary.
According to Kris, he was “speechless” whenever they would cross paths. However, Mel said that he was just “starstruck” since he has a “crush” on his now-fiancée. (J. Malasig, Interaksyon)
