Tagle: End ‘merciless’ corruption, stealing

  • In his homily during the mass for the opening of the Jubilee Archbishop-Cardinal-Luis-Antonio of Mercy at the Manila Cathedral, Tagle said: “Stop merciless stealing… Stop merciless corruption.”

It was not the first time that Tagle has spoken versus corruption and stealing, including those in government. The Cardinal also called for a stop to the abuse of women and children, and of the oppression of the weak, among others.

Tagle opened the Holy Door of the Manila Cathedral to signal the start of the Archdiocese’s observance of the Jubilee of Mercy. Tagle was joined by poor people and people with disabilities in pushing open the Holy Door of the Cathedral. After entering, Tagle knelt down in prayer before proceeding to the altar together with the priests to celebrate Holy Mass. By passing through the Holy Door and making pilgrimages in declared Jubilee Churches, Tagle said devotees can gain indulgences.

In his homily, Tagle enjoined the people not only to enter through the Holy Doors of cathedrals and basilicas but also to go through “Doors of Charity” of the homeless, the poor, the imprisoned, and the sick.

“Let us build a society on the foundation of the merciful Jesus and let us be a stone of a construction of just, truthful, loving society of mercy,” said Tagle.

Aside from the Manila Cathedral, other Jubilee churches in the Manila archdiocese are the National Shrine of the Sacred Heart, Makati City; Santuario de Santo Cristo, San Juan

City; Archdiocesan Shrine of the Divine Mercy, Mandaluyong City; and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church, Pasay City.

The Catholic Church’s Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy is set to run until November 20, 2016. (Malaya)
