  • President-elect Rodrigo Duterte said that he will not make any statement on the South China Sea or West Philippine Sea dispute until the United Nations tribunal issues its ruling on the case.

The United Nations’ Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, Netherlands is yet to issue its ruling on the Philippines’ arbitration case against China. Sa West Philippine Sea, we shut up. We will wait for the decision before we make any public statement. We are just waiting for the arbitral judgment, Duterte said in his speech at the flag-raising ceremony in Davao City on Monday morning. Nice one, Mr. President-elect.

    Less talk, less mistake.

Tatay Digong said he will be sending incoming Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade to China to talk about peace and how China can help us. Duterte said there are benefits to having friendly relations with Beijing, including a Chinese offer of financing railway projects in the Philippines.

Tugade will not to talk about war, not talk about irritations there, but, more on friendly approach that could net the Philippines ‘billions’ of investments…

In MRT and other railways systems projects.

Only maruya, durian and buko juice would be served to the more than 650 guests at the June 30, 2016 inaugural of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte at the Rizal Hall in Malacanang. And the media are not allowed inside, but, only at the well-manicured Malacanang lawn where they could set-up their equipments. They are, however, allowed to hook up with the government-run PTV4.

Malacanang writers are allowed inside the Press Room, but, no interview with the President before and after the inaugural. The press are provided, however, with big screens inside the Press Room to monitor everything going on at the Rizal Hall.

Suppression of press freedom? Di naman. Konting Tampo lang po sa media.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has not been sworn into office as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines as of this writing, and yet, impeachment talks are now brewing in the House of Representatives in Batasan. Well, an impeachment complaint against incoming President Digong Duterte could trigger an acid test for his coalition allies in the so-called “super majority” in the House of Representatives. Anong say kaya ni incoming speaker Pantaleon Alvarez?

Ang agang girian sa Kongreso, eyh?

                                                  *****

According to a very reliable source, the issue of an impeachment case against Duterte surfaced last Monday following reports that the PDP-Laban would block certain members of the Liberal Party (LP) from joining the “super majority.” According to one of the lawmakers in the “super majority,” the main consideration that made the lawmakers decide in joining the PDP-Laban coalition was due to “personal interest.”  The President has no allies in Congress and many does not agree to his style the lawmaker added. He alleged that some LP members who already joined the PDP-Laban did so because of personal interests as they do not want to be charged for possible graft in connection with the pork barrel scam.

‘Nakngdragon! Kapit-sa-tuko, err, nakaupo sa Malacanang talaga maraming Congressmen.

                                                     *****

Yorme Duterte allegedly ordered apparent Speaker Rep. Alvarez to block the entry of some LP members to the supermajority for allegedly committing unforgivable offenses in the last presidential campaign. And current Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte also indicated the possibility that the proposed coalition agreement between the Liberal Party (LP) and Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) may not even push through as majority of the LP leaders do not want the party to break up.

Wow! Vindictive rin ba si Yorme Duterte, ala-Noynoy Aquino?

                                                    *****

The PDP-Laban, before the elections was a mere three to five members in the Lower House. It went into a coalition binge as soon as the survey ratings of their presidential front runner Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte soared. Now, a super majority is in the offing, but, Belmonte said there is no concrete proof yet to lay claim everyone in the super majority group truly support Duterte and his ‘few’ allies. Ha? Duterte and Alvarez have….

    Double-faced allies in Congess?

                                                    *****

Also, Belmonte also pushed for the creation of a congressional oversight committee that would scrutinize all negotiated contracts entered into by Duterte in the event that he is given the “emergency powers aimed at solving the traffic crisis in Metro Manila. The Duterte camp wants Congress to grant the president emergency powers to solve the traffic mess which, studies, they said is causing the country over P2-billion a day.” We always want the best deal for the government and a strong congressional oversight is needed for this,” Belmonte said. Now that pork barrel is eliminated, could the real and true..

Check and balance surface now in the Legislative?

Talked to some friends and colleagues in Manila when I was on my 10-week stay in the super hot Philippines and we discussed Mayor Digong Duterte and his rise to become the 17th President of the Republic via a landslide win over more popular opponents. A sports writing colleague said Duterte’s victory was due to the Filipinos frustrations over PNoy’s lackadaisical handling of the government in six years. Another colleague simply said Digong won the hearts of the 16-million voters because of his iron-fist program on drugs and corruptions.

    Dats why Pinoys elected Digong.
