  • Ottawa – The Honourable Tobias C. Enverga Jr., Senator from Ontario, congratulates the President-elect of the Philippines, Mr. Rodrigo Duterte, on his election victory.

“I wish to congratulate Mr. Duterte on his decisive election victory in the latest presidential elections in the Philippines,” said Senator Enverga in a statement.  “I wish him all the best on his term as President of my country of birth, and I hope that he will be successful with implementing his highly ambitious agenda on both domestic and international issues.  With the highest office of the country comes the greatest responsibility.  I want to take this opportunity to remind the President-elect of the duty to selflessly serve all the people to the best of his ability,” he continued.

Monday’s elections saw a record turnout of voters with over 81 percent of registered voters casting their ballot and exercising their democratic right.  In addition to the Presidential elections, Congressional, provincial and local elections were conducted.

“The record turnout is testament to the people of the Philippines’ great sense of civic duty, and I thank all who voted for their representatives.  I also want to congratulate candidates who ran for the Senate, the House of Representatives, provincial and local elections on their successful bids, and thank all who participated as candidates.  I trust that Mr. Duterte will continue the ongoing process of strengthening the already deep relationship between Canada and the Philippines.  As a Canadian of Filipino heritage, I am in a unique position, and I assure you that I will use this to assist the governments of the two countries to achieve even closer ties,” Senator Enverga ended.
