  • Filipina care giver Lucia Velasco died last March 8 when two vehicles hit her at the corner of 41st and Kerr street in east Vancouver. She was on her way home from work at 9:30 in the evening when she was hit by two separate cars. Both drivers of the cars remained on the scene and waited for help to come.

Velasco, 51 years old, has been working in Canada for three years, and is on her way to bring her husband and son. She is from Baguio City, where her family remains.

On her GoFundMe fundraising site, her son posted a heartfelt message about his mother.

“My mother was an angel sent to us from heaven. Anyone who knew her can attest to how wonderful a person she was. She was always on the go and full of life. She would make friends everywhere she went. She was selfless and loving. She was thoughtful and caring. She was always nice to everyone. Her patience was never ending. She had a soft heart yet she’s strong. She faced all hardships in life with a smile on her face.”

Like all foreign temporary workers, her objective was to give a better life for her family.

Vancouver Police said Velasco was hit by two cars and was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers remained at the scene.
