    Minister Fast Congratulates Vancouver–Based Company on Success in Philippines. Minister of International Trade Ed Fast congratulates Xanatos Marine Ltd. and the governor of Zambales province on the signing of a $7.5-million contract for the Canadian company to supply an automatic vessel identification system to the Philippine province. The system will be used to help identify and counter threats to the environment and ensure maritime safety and security, including by preventing foreign fishers from illegally entering the province’s territorial waters.

    Xanatos Marine provides a range of products and services, sold in 14 countries around the world, that aid in the safety of mariners, vessels and waterways. The company is headquartered in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

    Minister Fast Witnesses Signing of Maritime Education Agreement
    Minister Fast witnesses the signing of an agreement between the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland and MARINA, a division of the Philippines’ Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), to help develop the maritime industry in the Philippines. The Marine Institute is recognized worldwide as one of the most respected centres for marine learning and applied research. The agreement includes an educational visit by Filipinos to gain understanding of Canada’s maritime industry and its systems, standards and training. During the visit, the Marine Institute and MARINA will identify new opportunities for collaborative engagements on training and on capacity development of the Philippine maritime industry.
