The government called the 42nd federal election on August 2. It will be held on October 19, 2015. Elections Canada offices in each of the 338 federal electoral districts will begin offering services to voters and candidates during the first week of August, with established hours that will be expanded as the demand for services increases starting in September.

Canadian citizens at least 18 years old on election day are eligible to vote.

Electors need to be registered to vote. Most electors are already registered. To check if they are registered, electors can visit elections.ca/register or call us at 1-800-463-6868 FREE.

Electors have many voting options to choose from: they can vote by mail, in person at any Elections Canada office, at advance polls or at their polling station on election day.

To vote, electors must show proof of their identity and address. The list of accepted pieces of identification is available online.

“Elections Canada is committed to making the voting process as accessible as possible to all Canadian electors,” said Chief Electoral Officer of Canada Marc Mayrand. “We are pleased to offer electors a range of voting options. We also accept many different pieces identification to help ensure they have what they need to vote.”

Voters can register, check, or update their voter registration online.

To vote, electors must be registered at their current address.

Elections Canada has started revising the preliminary lists of electors. These lists are produced using information in the National Register of Electors.

Starting September 1, election workers may conduct door-to-door targeted revision in areas where mobility is high and registration levels are low. If no one is home, the workers will leave behind a registration kit that explains how to register.

Electors can use Elections Canada’s online voter registration service to register online, to check if they are registered, or to update their address.

Elections Canada will mail a personalized voter information card to each registered elector. Cards should arrive between Wednesday, September 23 and Wednesday, September 30.

“I encourage anyone who’s not sure if they are registered to check online at elections.ca,” said Mayrand. “If you’re not registered, register now. This way you’ll get a voter information card with details about when, where and ways to vote, and you’ll enjoy faster service at the polls.”
