  • 88 Supermarket celebrated Canada Day with its 2020 Giveaway promotions. Apart from gift cards worth $888 and $88 each, the store gave away a Toyota Corolla LE 2020. Winning the car was Annabel Domingo Gabriel of Vancouver, who was so happy that she came to the store right away after 88 Supermarket phoned her to inform her that she won.

“I am so happy! I was doing my prayers for my mother who passed away in the Philippines a month ago,” Gabriel shared. “I couldn’t go home to say goodbye to her because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but I guess this is her way of saying everything will be ok.” Close to tears, she thanked 88 Supermarket for her prize.

“I always shop here because their produce is always fresh, especially the meat and seafood,” she adds. Gabriel says she shops at the Victoria Drive branch all the time.

The store also gave two Kitchen Aid 12-Convection Digital Countertop Oven and two iRobot Roomba cleaners.

88 Supermarket owner Ken Chau, General Manager Khalil Qureshi and Rey and Cely Fortaleza were present during the raffle draws. Rey Fortaleza drew the winning ticket for the car, while suppliers and patrons of the store drew the other winning tickets.

Qureshi says that the store continues to observe social distancing as well as the limiting of patrons inside the store for safety purposes.

“We are following the protocols set by the BC Health Ministry so that we can keep our customers safe and healthy,” he tells PNT.

88 Supermarket does their annual giveaway of prizes every year during Canada Day, and they have two branches in Vancouver, one on Victoria Drive and the other in Killarney.
