  • The Surrey Forward party is ready to serve the city and its residents.

Surrey Forward is fielding Jinny Sims as mayoral candidate in the October 15, 2022 local election, and

the party also has seven candidates for council.

One of these candidates is Filipino Canadian financial professional Ramon Bandong.

On Saturday (September 24), Surrey Forward will present its slate at the Filipino restaurant Kanin+Ulam

located at 12411 King George Boulevard in an event starting at 4 p.m.

The party is pledging to help build a strong and inclusive city.

Surrey Forward is focusing on three major things: addressing the cost of living in Surrey, fairness moving

    forward, and openness and transparency.

Jinny Sims is a former president of the B.C. Teachers' Federation.

Sims has served as a Member of Parliament, and most recently, B.C. MLA representing Surrey-

    Panorama.

Ramon Bandong was born in the Philippines, and he wants to utilize his financial background to improve

    cost-of-living affordability.

A Surrey resident of 23 years, Bandong is passionate about interracial respect, mental well-being,

    inclusion and dignity.

In a recent statement, Sims committed to creating facilities for seniors and children in every Surrey

    community.

“It is an opportunity to create facilities for children and seniors,” said Sims. “Enabling seniors’ recreation,

rehabilitation and simple activities in the same location as childcare is a solution with proven benefits to

    both children and seniors.”

“Every town centre in Surrey requires a centre like this. Surrey Forward will work with community

groups, childcare and seniors service providers and our provincial partners to quickly deliver these

    facilities for all of Surrey.”

The New Westminster and District Labour Council has endorsed Sims and Surrey Forward.

This sought-after endorsement underlines the differences between Surrey Forward, Surrey Connect of

Brenda Locke, and the Safe Surrey Coalition of Mayor Doug McCallum.

“Brenda Locke and Doug McCallum continue to play games with Surrey. They are not committed to

ensuring costs are managed, families can access services and transportation is easy and inexpensive.

They are so busy fighting each other, they no longer fight for Surrey families,” Sims said in a previous

    statement.
