Genius (PG) ***

Writer’s  Bloc!

Films on authors can be a potential minefield. But done right the end results can be terrific. Luckily Elevation Pictures cooks up a winner with Genius. Smart on all counts this engaging dramatic biography is spellbinding audiences at the Fifth Avenue Cinemas.

Born to write is Thomas Wolfe. Old timers know of this man’s contributions to the written world and producers could not have found a more suitable match than Jude Law. Born to play this role Law digs deep and pulls off a stunner that may well come a calling come Oscar time. Consider Wolfe’s editor at New York leading publishing house Scribner Son’s to be the perfect balance to Wolfe’s rather flamboyant personality.

Solid and compassionate like as a father like figure to Wolfe”s rather unpredictable state is Oscar winning actor Colin Firth. Together this writer and moulder work wonders making Genius a thoroughly entertaining event. Penned by recent James Bond screenwriter John Logan  Here the atmosphere of the early 30s is full of style and substance.

Not dull or long consider Genius to be an enlightening experience that helps make writing chic again.  And watch out for a conniving performance from Nicole Kidman who makes dragon ladies chic again.
