Self-taught Fil-Am filmmaker’s indie drama screens in NYC

fil-am-filmakerDescribed as a “little indie family drama,” self-taught filmmaker Yasmine Gomez’s “A Picture of You” will have its theatrical run June 20 to 26 at the AMC Loews Village VII in the East Village. This narrative feature begins with the familiar dynamics of sibling squabbles and family tension, and ends up in the most unexpected place.

The film stars Jo Mei (forthcoming “Adult World”), Andy Pang (“The Good Wife,” “Elementary”), Teyonah Parris (“Mad Men”) and Jodi Long (“Sullivan & Son”). It is written and directed by J.P. Chan. “A Picture of You” is produced by Gomez, a freelance filmmaker. It was named Best Screenplay at the 2014 L.A. Asian Pacific Film Festival. It earned a nice review at the Huffington Post, which called it a “smart and intimate” film. Her website says Gomez is a New York-based producer and director. As the senior video producer for Eveo, she has produced more than 100 documentary films for the pharmaceutical industry.

“A Picture of You” is her first feature film. As an independent filmmaker, she won Best Film in the 48 Hr Film Project San Francisco for the short film, “Consumed,” which she wrote and co-directed. Gomez also directed what she called a “mockumentary” short, “Asian American Jesus.” (The FilAm,gma)
