  • Veteran actor Eddie Garcia’s condition is unchanged, according to the family’s spokesperson, Dr. Tony Rebosa.

In a press con yesterday, Rebosa read a medical bulletin from the Makati Medical Center saying the nonagenarian actor remains to be in “critical condition.”

“As of 1 p.m. of June 13, 2019, Mr. Eduardo ‘Eddie’ Garcia continues to be in critical condition. He is still in comatose state and is dependent on ventilator and medication to support his blood pressure,” the statement read.

The award-winning actor-director has been in the intensive care unit of the Makati Medical Center since Sunday morning.

As for the latest Medical Bulletin #5 of Makati Medical Center released today, June 19:

“Mr. Garcia continues to be in critical condition.
“He remains dependent on the ventilator to breathe and medications to support his blood pressure.
“His latest electroencephalogram (EEG) study showed minimal brain activity.
“Visitors are strictly limited to prevent complications from occuring.”

“This [bulletin] was issued by the good doctors of Makati Medical center who continues to do their best for Eddie Garcia. But of course, as we’ve been saying all along, everything is in God’s hands. We just have to pray,” he added.

Garcia’s relatives are thankful for all the people’s prayers and support and that as of yesterday afternoon, Rebosa cleared that they have not signed any document that would mean they are the allowing the withdrawal of life support on the actor.

“When you say withdrawal of life support, that would refer to what we call extubation tanggal tubo and unplugging of whatever equipment or machines that’s keeping Mr. Garcia alive, we’d be withdrawing oxygen and medicines nya,” explained Rebosa, “Of course, they’ve been contemplating on that, thinking about it, but as of the moment the family has not really decided on doing that. I understand that no documents as of this moment have been signed to that effect, pati ‘yung tinatawag nating Do Not Resuscitate or DNR…. As of the moment, wala pa pong desisyon.”

The 90-year-old actor suffered severe fracture on his neck following an accident last Saturday, June 8 in Tondo, Manila. Garcia fell headfirst while taping a scene for his new soap, “Rosang Agimat.” He was first brought to Mary Johnston Hospital in Manila, before being transferred to Makati Medical Center on Sunday morning.

According to Rebosa, everything is being done to keep Garcia alive.

“Yes, that just goes to show you how resilient Mr. Eddie Garcia is. As I’ve said a while ago, any lesser mortal, younger, mga 20 to 30 years old na pasyente na ganun ang sinapit, ala na siguro at this time. But look at Mr. Garcia, this is the fifth day. But I don’t want to give you any false hopes. Masyadong serious ‘yung kanyang neck fracture…,” he said.

Meanwhile, Veteran actor Eddie Garcia, who is still in coma after an on-set accident, won Best Actor in the 42nd Urian Awards for his performance in ML.

Also, tributes have poured in for the actor, fondly called Manoy in and out of showbiz. Garcia has starred in over 300 movies and has been lauded as a treasure, an icon and a legend, who has been acting for seventy years. There is an ongoing call for the actor’s inclusion into the Order of the National Artists of the Philippines (Pambansang Alagad ng Sining ng Pilipinas). (Malaya)
