‘Deadpool’ star Ryan Reynolds left speechless and teary eyed by Canadian recognition

It is a rare moment to see a speechless Ryan Reynolds, but this was exactly what happened after the wisecracking Canadian star was honored with a Governor General’s Award and a song entitled “Canada Loves You Back.”

The video was shown to Ryan after he was presented by the medal and his reaction was filmed while the song basically outlined all his accomplishments and his efforts to help various organizations in Canada without the media knowing.

The song employed Ryan’s signature style of humor and talked about his self-deprecating charm, his big heart and his immense talent. Of course, the song paid tribute to his love of his native Canada and said that his country just as much. The song also humorously mentioned that if things don’t pan out in Hollywood, Canada will have Ryan’s back.

Canada Loves You Back was performed by Canadian singer-songwriter legend Steven Page with @nac.cna Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Desaulniers. The track was mixed by Paul Forgues.

At the end of the video, Ryan could be seen wiping away tears and clutching his chest because he was at a loss for words.

“Last night, Canada honored me with a Governor General’s Award and this video. I’m not crying. It’s just maple syrup,” Ryan said in his post. “Thank you to Her Excellency, The Right Honourable Governor General of Canada Mary Simon. Thank you to the National Arts Centre for keeping the performing arts alive and well throughout Canada and being a champion for voices which have been historically silenced or overlooked. (A.
